But Ty’s legacy extends far beyond the boardroom. With a rich basketball journey spanning over 25 years, he has honed his skills not just as a player but as an influential trainer and coach.
During his time at Valley City High School in North Dakota, he didn't just play; he led the Hi-Liners to back-to-back state tournament appearances, earning all-state honors in his junior and senior years, culminating in the prestigious title of North Dakota Mr. Basketball in 2000. This was just the beginning. He furthered his legacy at North Dakota State University and Valley City State University, where he was recognized as an all-conference performer in 2004-2005.
For years, Ty has dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of athletes by launching the Mr. Basketball Academy in 2019. This platform isn’t just about refining skills; it’s about instilling passion and tenacity in young players throughout Minnesota and North Dakota.
As the Head Girls' Basketball Coach at St. Mary's Central High School in Bismarck, he is shaping young athletes into confident leaders, proving that every shot taken on the court echoes the values of discipline and perseverance.
Ty's commitment to his family is equally inspiring. Married to his partner Heidi and the proud father of nine, his journey took a poignant turn with the tragic loss of his son, Tyshon, in 2018. In his honor, Ty established the Tyshon Terry Foundation, a powerful initiative dedicated to combating inequality and injustice through the vital education of life skills and financial literacy.
